Customers name it for seamless, free ecosystem integration.
Pricing, support, and renewals are all Acute and worsening, with a 30-33% price increase in early 2026 driving sustained cancellation pressure. Customers also report multi-day support waits and no human escalation during account lockouts, making access problems more consequential. Unwanted AI features, rigid billing handling, and reliability failures further weaken trust among long-term users.
Across 148 customer source records for 1Password, this run documents 6 switching triggers and 6 named destinations.
Ordered by how much evidence sits behind each one, strongest first.
Customers report 30-33% increases, including an annual renewal rising from $35.88 to $47.88. The issue surfaces at renewal, particularly for customers who feel they are being charged more for features they did not request.
Some individual and family customers view AI integrations as unnecessary additions to a password manager and connect them to higher subscription costs. This becomes a retention issue when customers assess whether the added functionality fits their needs or security expectations.
Account lockouts can become prolonged when replies take five to six days or longer and there is no human escalation path. Repeated requests for information and new case numbers add delay when customers need access restored.
Brief payment failures can immediately disconnect family accounts, interrupting shared access. Customers also report guest-account double charges, which creates billing disputes at a sensitive renewal moment.
A reported recovery flow allowed permanent deletion of a family's shared vault, along with more than 100 passwords and secrets. This risk matters most during recovery, when customers expect safeguards rather than irreversible loss.
Customers report generated passwords sometimes failing to save to the vault after a third-party service accepts the change. That can lock customers out of the affected account and is harder to resolve when support is slow.
Customers name Apple Passwords, Bitwarden, Proton Pass, KeePassXC, Roboform, and Vaultwarden as destinations. Bitwarden is associated with open-source transparency, Proton Pass with bundled value, and Apple Passwords with seamless, free ecosystem integration. Price increases and a preference for open-source or bundled options are central reasons customers migrate.

Pricing & Value is Acute and worsening after a 30-33% subscription increase in early 2026. Customers object to higher renewal costs, charges for unwanted AI features, guest-account double charging, and family-account disconnections after brief payment failures.
I’ve just received notice that my annual price is increasing from $35.88 to $47.88 — a 33% rise in a single year. Over the past three years, my subscription cost has increased by 122%. That level of escalation is difficult to justify.

When customers are locked out, automated chat and email processes can mean waits of five to six days or longer without human escalation. Repetitive information requests and new case numbers can delay resolution, while one reported recovery flow led to permanent shared-vault deletion.
Support is extremely slow. Replies can take 5–6 days, sometimes longer. On top of that, support often does not read messages carefully and keeps asking for more and more information instead of actually answering the questions.

Renewals & Retention is Acute and worsening as long-term customers explicitly cancel following the early-2026 price hike. Customers report that vault migration to cheaper or bundled alternatives can be completed without data loss, making departure more practical.
After 15+ years with 1Password (I still have my 1P4 license), I’m finally throwing in the towel... I’m ready to leave because even my last year at 50% off.

Long-time customers describe a shift from a native, user-focused application toward a web-based, subscription-heavy enterprise tool. Removed complaints and criticism add to the perception that product flaws are being hidden rather than addressed.
After 15+ years as a loyal user, watching this app slowly transform to "greed machine" been genuinely disappointing. What used to feel like a thoughtfully crafted product built by people who cared about users has gradually turned into something that feels driven by corporate growth targets.

AI Capability & Maturity is Elevated and worsening because some individual and family customers see AI features as unwanted bloat rather than useful functionality. They connect those features to subscription increases and concerns about the password manager's core security focus.
Client depuis de nombreuses années je reçois un mail annonçant 38% d’augmentation pour de soi-disant fonctionnalités intelligentes par IA qui n’ont pas d’utilité et que je n’ai pas demandées.

Application-layer bugs can disrupt daily account access even though customers continue to trust the core encryption engine. Reported issues include generated passwords not saving to the vault, persistent passkey problems on Oracle sites, and recurring Safari-extension failures.
I wanted to change a password at Amazon. 1password suggests a secure password, Amazon saves new password, logs me out, asks to login back with the new password, and... 1password did not save it!

New customers can struggle with the Secret Key architecture, multi-device synchronization, and separate desktop, browser-extension, and mobile setup. Loading the product on a new device requires the master code, which can lead to abandoned trials and support escalations.
I've tried to switch from LastPass twice in two years and I can't figure out how to make it work. First install the desktop app, then the chrome extension, then add to safari on my iPhone, turn them all on, turn LastPass off, etc, etc.
